It's the first question on everyone's mind when they come to an event for the first time. Maybe its the first time riding trials ever. Maybe its the first event with a new club. Maybe its the first time at a new place, or with a new Trialsmaster. But the question is always the same. What class do I ride? A lot of riders know that classes can differ between different clubs. Some clubs are easy, some are hard, some are pretty consistent with how they set events and other seem to be all over the map. MSTA's goal with our classes is first and foremost, make them fun. We want to make them as safe as possible. We want to be consistent. And we want to dial back the intensity (especially in the lower classes). Our goal with the lower classes is to focus on basic and technical trials skills, like learning clutch control and tight, off-camber turns into obstacles. Upper classes will focus more on bigger obstacles and advances trials skills like hopping and splatters. The easiest way to decide what class is right for you is to go the day of the event and walk a few sections. Also, MSTA will allow you to ride up to three sections, return to the sign up table and switch to another class (higher or lower) and re-ride the sections without any penalties. These are the classes we will be running in the 2019 season: Juniors Novice Amateur Senior Amateur (rides the Amateur line) Vintage B (Twin shock, air cooled, drum brake bikes with no hydraulics) will ride the Amateur line Intermediate Senior Intermediate (rides the Intermediate line) Vintage A (any bike manufactured before 1994) will ride the Intermediate line Sportsman Veteran (rides the Sportsman line) Advanced Expert Pro Novice through Intermediate are considered lower level lines. Sportsman through Pro are upper level. Our novice level lines are geared towards first time riders and riders just learning basic trials skills like clutch and throttle control or who have never been to an event before. The lines advance in difficulty and skill level all the way up to the most difficult and advanced line for the Pros. Whether you are riding Novice, Pro or somewhere in between, our goal is to make our events fun yet challenging for riders. It's looking to be an amazing first season, and I can't wait to see everybody out there. Feet Up!
